[[WikiWikiWeb]] was the first wiki, founded in 1995 by [[Ward Cunningham]].

Following the conflict expressed by the massive deletions on [[WikiWikiWeb]] by the [[WikiReductionists]] in 2000, [[Sunir Shah]] created [[MeatballWiki]] to transfer discussion of [[WikiOnWiki]] topics off of [[WikiWikiWeb]]. Shortly thereafter, [[Richard Drake]] created the [[WhyClublet]] wiki to transfer from [[WikiWikiWeb]] discusion of Christian topics.

Founded in 2001, [[Wikipedia]] brought the concept of wikis to the attention of the general public. The [[Meta-Wikimedia]] wiki was later (year?) created as a forum for discussion about [[Wikipedia]].

A series of wikis were created more-or-less as forks from [[MeatballWiki]]. In 2003 were created [[CommunityWiki]] and the French wiki [[CraoWiki]]. Helmut Leiter created [[FractalWiki]] to explore the idea of [[WikiFractacality]], and [[Lion Kimbro]] created the [[WikiNodes Wiki]] to develop the [[WikiNode]] concept.
