He has some degree of fame as one of the "Gang of Four" for being a co-author of the award winning book Design Patterns and was awarded the 2005 ACM Programming Languages Award. The "Gang of Four" was awarded the AITO Dahl-Nygaard Prize for 2006. Richard Helm is currently with The Boston Consulting Group where he consults on the strategic application of technology to business. His career spans high technology research, product development, systems integration, and IT consulting. Prior to joining BCG, Richard has worked with IBM Global Services, DMR, and began his career as a research scientist at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research_Center in New York.
