When [[Ward Cunningham]] created [[WikiWikiWeb]], he posted an invitation to [[InvitedAuthors]], most whom were members of the [http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?PatternsList PatternsList] (the “Patterns” listserv).  Many of them were also members of the [[Hillside Group]].

The original invitation can be found on  the [[WikiWikiWeb]] page [http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?InvitationToThePatternsList InvitationToThePatternsList], which begins:

:The following item was posted to the PatternsList on May 1, 1995.

On the [http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?PatternsList PatternsList] page it is written:

:[[Ralph Johnson|RalphJohnson]] maintains several mailing lists related to patterns. Some have a readership in the thousands.

This is followed by a broken link, which is replaced by an [http://hillside.net/patterns/mailing.htm  updated link] to a page at the website of the [[Hillside Group]]. The [http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?PatternsList PatternsList] page also says:

:It seems that this (PatternsList) was the Original Name of what has grown to be WardsWiki.
